Structure of the Consortium
IMECCHI is an informal organisation of individuals interested in methodological
developments in the use of routinely collected health information to promote
quality of care and of health policy decisions. As such, the consortium’s
members indicated a strong preference for a relatively informal governance
structure with its current members guided by a three member executive leadership
group consisting of Drs William Ghali, Bernard Burnand, and Hude Quan. That
leadership team will represent all of the consortium’s members and activities,
and will oversee the strategic direction of the consortium, and undertake the
planning of consortium meetings. The consortium’s activities, meanwhile, will be
defined by its specific project activities, and for this, the executive group
will identify project leadership teams who will be responsible for the conduct
of specific consortium initiatives (e.g., a leadership team of three individuals
has been appointed to spearhead the consortium’s planned patient safety
indicator ICD-9 to ICD-10 translation work). Individual consortium members will
therefore communicate with either the project leadership teams or the 3 person
executive leadership group on matters relating to IMECCHI.
Roles of the Executive Leadership Group
• Facilitates the fulfilment of the aims and objectives of IMECCHI in line with
the value’s of IMECCHI;
• Serves the mission of IMECCHI on behalf of its members;
• Represents IMECCHI in its interactions and collaboration with key stakeholder
organizations (in particular, the World Health Organization’s Family of
Classifications Unit).
• Provides leadership in defining and achieving the scientific and other
strategic directions (partnerships, communication/marketing…) of the group;
• Ensures translation of strategic direction into operational plans;
• Monitors the progress of the group in pursuing/achieving its objectives;
• Represents and advocates for the interests of the group;
• Decides upon the admission of new members in accordance with the explicit
considerations for group membership (see below);
• Agrees on agendas and programmes for workshops and conferences.
